Kopke

In 1636 Nicolau Kopke moved from Hamburg to Portugal as Consul General of the Hanseatic League and thus began the story of Kopke. Two years later, Kopke's first bottles of wine were exported to the north of Europe.

Crafters of unique moments, all wines produced at Kopke are enhanced by the legacy of its knowledge and passion. Being the oldest House of Port Wine, established in 1638, has given it a special mission through its centuries-long existence.

The Douro – and specifically Quinta de São Luiz – is the birthplace of Kopke wines. Its 125 hectares of meticulously well-tended vines on the left bank of the Douro River produce an exceptional and consistent portfolio of ports and Doc Douro wines, which perfectly convey their terroir.
